FEICA notified BASA today that the Commission’s Environmental Omnibus, originally scheduled for tomorrow, 3 December, will be delayed.

The delay reflects the lack of consensus in the Commission regarding the inclusion of certain legislation in the Environmental Omnibus, including the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD).

The issue is also being discussed among Member States in the Council, particularly the concern about EPR schemes in the UWWTD and the Commission’s ongoing new cost assessment. Health Commissioner Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi evoked the possibility to “postpone the application [of EPR] and/or leave time for a review based on this analysis that we are now carrying out.”
