BASA has submitted comments on the proposed inclusion of Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCPs) on the UK REACH Candidate List. While BASA does not challenge the scientific basis for identifying MCCPs as substances of very high concern, the paper highlights the need for proportionate implementation measures that recognise existing Stockholm Convention exemptions, the realities of construction product supply chains, and the time required for reformulation, certification and depletion of existing market stocks. BASA is calling for a managed transition, including appropriate exemptions and a minimum two-year phase-out period for affected One Component Foam and polysulfide sealant applications, to avoid unnecessary waste, cost and disruption while industry moves to alternative technologies.
