Since our inception 40 years ago, Stort Group has secured its position as one of the top independent chemical distributors in the UK. Now into the third generation, Stort Group remains 100% family-owned.

Kendrick Gilkes, founder of Stort Group, started his career as a paint chemist in the 1960s. With the close relationships Kendrick formed throughout his career, he seized the opportunity to start a chemical distribution company. Before the days of the internet or shared currencies, Stort supported a wide range of customers by offering materials from all over the world into the UK market. Now that the world is better connected, Stort Group provide close customer and supplier partnerships, offering extensive UK stock with reduced risks for all parties.

With 4 warehouses across the UK and 2 in Europe, we are able to offer 1-3 day lead times for stock material and ensure that our customers’ contracted material is readily available. Our dedicated, technically trained team are on-hand to help with all requests, big or small, whether it be 1kg or 100 tonnes. Staying true to the ethos of our founders, Kendrick and Marguerite Gilkes, Stort Group remain focussed on transparency throughout the supply chain. We prioritise the personal along with the professional and consider our customers and suppliers part of the Stort family.
