From wise mentors and reluctant heroes to high-performing teams and failing organisations, science fiction offers some surprisingly powerful lessons about leadership, resilience and the development of future talent. Using well-known examples from film and literature, this thought-provoking and engaging session explores how individuals and organisations respond to pressure, uncertainty and change, and what these stories can teach us about mentoring, succession planning and building resilient teams. The session will examine themes including recognising and supporting people under pressure, developing confidence and capability in emerging leaders, transferring critical knowledge and skills, and creating the conditions for individuals and teams to thrive. Through the lens of fictional characters and organisations, delegates will gain fresh perspectives on very real workplace challenges, from leadership transitions and skills shortages to wellbeing and organisational resilience. Combining practical business insights with memorable examples from science fiction, this session will provide delegates with ideas they can apply immediately to develop people, strengthen leadership pipelines and build organisations that are better equipped for the future.
