Building Safety Statement made on 2 September 2024 - no end to CE marking recognition for Construction Products
Rushanara Ali, the parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Building Safety has announced today that the the Government will extend the period of recognition of CE marking for construction products. The CE mark will continue to be available when placing construction products on the market across the UK and recognising the need for industry to have sufficient certainty to support supply chains, it was confirmed that any subsequent changes to the recognition of CE marking would be subject to a minimum 2-year transitional period.
The previously stated deadline of 30 June 2025 for CE marking recognition in Great Britain has now been revoked.

In summary this means that:
- CE marking will be accepted past 30th June 2025 in Great Britain.
- The government has committed to system wide construction product regulatory reform.
- UKCA marking will remain a valid and accepted regulatory mark.
- The government will explore the long-term future of CE/UKCA marking as part of this regulatory reform.
- Any subsequent changes to the recognition of CE marking would be subject to a minimum 2-year transitional period.
- The government will engage with UK Conformity Assessment Bodies, the UK Accreditation Service, and the wider industry to strengthen the conformity assessment market.
This announcement also includes measures in relation to sprinklers in care homes and national classes.
This information was received from MHCLG (the new government department name for DLUHC) who are responsible for the legislation for Construction products, including adhesives and sealants under the scope of a designated standard.
Please note that the UK legislation relating to Construction Products in GB recognises either UKCA marking (any required external testing must be carried out by a UK Approved body) or valid CE marking (any required external testing must be carried out by an EU Notified body).
