BREAKING NEWS - An alternative transitional registration model (ATRm) for UK REACH

BREAKING NEWS - An alternative transitional registration model (ATRm) for UK REACH

DEFRA are seeking views on an ATRm for the UK REACH (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) regulation. This consultation closes at 11:45pm on 11 July 2024. BASA will be holding a special webinar to look at the proposals and will then also be holding a follow up session with suggested responses to the consultation.

Consultation description

We want to know what you think about our plans to make changes to UK REACH by introducing an ATRm.

This aims to reduce the estimated £2 billion costs the chemical industry in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) would have faced under the transition from EU REACH to UK REACH.

The ATRm proposes to reduce these transition costs while continuing to ensure high levels of protection of human health and the environment.

Our plans also aim to improve the regulatory efficiency in the UK REACHrestrictions and reporting regimes we inherited from EU REACH.

This will involve making the processes smarter, more agile, reflective and supportive of the operation of UK REACH in Great Britain. We also wish to explore how we could strengthen our approach against unnecessary animal testing.
