This presentation will provide an overview of supplier obligations around the sale of regulated and reportable chemicals under the Poisons Act 1972, and the Control of Explosives Precursors and Poisons Regulations 2023 which came into force on 1st October 2023 bringing with it new obligations and chemicals. The presentation will also cover the importance of suspicious activity reporting to help prevent terrorist and criminal activity and provide some example case studies where reporting has led to positive interventions by Policing colleagues

11:50 Development of the BPR legislation in Europe and UK, and concerned about the future availability of preservatives on the GB market - Scott Betts, Thor UK

Biocides are an important raw material to prevent water-based adhesives and water based raw materials from biodeteriorating while in their service life. The EU Biocide Regulation, which has its origins in the early 1990's, continues to output reviewed active substances at a slow rate. The EU Authorities that evaluate the biocidal active substances deliver very conservative opinions which limits options for industry. With BREXIT delivered in 2021, the UK market now has the GB version of the EU legislation where implementation of the work is slow. A basic overview of the Biocide legislation will be presented followed by an update of the regulatory status of certain biocide active substances for In-can and film preservation applications.

The November Open Industry Forum (OIF) is at the Sketchley Grange Hotel, Hinckley. Free for all BASA members with a buffet lunch included.

We will discuss some important recycling and sustainability themes, as well as looking at how we can help SME members start their carbon journey is an affordable way (we will even talk about how we can save you money).

We will also have our usual regulatory update and hope that by November we can give you news on UKREACH and UKCA marking, and perhaps talk about what priorities we think the UK government will choose.

If you have new starters - why not bring them along to find out about the sector and do some networking - there are no limits to the number of people attending for each Member company!
